My wife and I came in the afternoon for the Joey experience and LOVED it. Learning so much about Pancake the Wombat, the beautiful quolls and of course the amazing Devils…and we came back for the sunset experience too. We’re so glad we got such a great encounter and education about these amazing unique creatures. Thanks especially to Rory - an excellent guide who’s passion for the animals was lovely and added to the whole experience. We will definitely be back next trip to Tassie!
We booked the sunset experience because we liked the sound of it and it also gave us more time for hiking during the day as we only had two days in Cradle Mountain. We found out we were able to go early and have a look around and since we made it back from our hike in time, decided to do this and then went back for the sunset experience which included lovely local food to taste for supper. The campfire was great as it had been snowing and quite cool. We loved meeting the baby devil close up and then enjoyed walking around again but this time with a personal commentary. Definitely recommend doing this visit.
My family agreed that was an absolute highlight of our trip to Tasmania. We had a lovely, informative tour of the facility, met the adorable devil Wilbur, and watched the feeding of several other devils. We then settled back to watch them go at their food while we enjoyed some delicious Tasmanian wine and treats. Our guide, Patrick, was friendly, knowledgeable and answered all our questions and enjoying the animals without the crowds a treat. Well worth the extra money, which goes to helping preserve these wonderful creatures. I couldn’t recommend this trip more.
Devils at Cradle was the perfect wind down finish to our day of hiking, to be able to pat Wilbur was excellent, seeing the Quolls and tasting the local produce while sitting around the fire watching the Devils feed was amazing. The information provided by our guide was fantastic and he answered all of our questions, a very down to earth gentleman. Thank you for a memorable experience.
The impact of the introduction of feral species, habitat loss, hunting and climate change have has a devastating effect on our native animals. Thank God there are people who are working to save our threatened species. This visit was fascinating. Highly recommended.
we paid to do the sunset experience as it sounded great but we were reluctant to pay the $100 each to do it. I felt it was to much for what we got and i hate to say that as the fellow who took us for the night experience was lovely and the money does go towards funding the tassie devils which is wonderful but i just felt it was alittle much. I think you would be better to just do the night feeding. As we did that and the only extra was we got to pat a joey and then had a glass of wine and some little sweets.
The tour started with a sampling of cold meats, smoked salmon, dips, cheeses, crusty sourdough and a lovely offering of cider, beer and wine. Then the guides talked about these amazing animals. They were very informative and showed a wealth of knowledge, even answering some very specific and detailed questions. Passion for the conservation of these animals is obvious! A beautiful joey was brought out to see up close and we had a pat. He was endearingly attached to the keeper and a little shy. After that we walked through to see Quolls and other devils. Then it was eating time. Fascinating to watch. We had a nice dessert which was a lovely finishing touch, especially when it includes Tasmanian products! The atmosphere was casual and friendly and well worth the experience. P.S. Saw a wombat roaming the top grassed section of carpark, what a nice surprise!
I’ve read the previous reviews and I don’t understand how people can have such poor opinions. My private experience with my fiancee during the dine with the devil tour was amazing. Although it was snowing, windy, -1 degree outside and wet, our tour guides “Rory and Prue” (i hope i got that right) did an amazing job looking after our welfare and really took the time to explain to us all about the specific species that are housed at the sanctuary. I think people really need to understand that although there are native animals on display, the devil sanctuary is not a theme park, but more an educational environment to stimulate support in protecting the animals and appreciating the unique habitat that we have in our very own backyard. The explanations that were provided to us, gave both my fiancee and I a thorough understanding of the lengths the sanctuary go to to ensure the health and welbeing of the animals is its main priority and the future of each species will continue to flourish. It may not be the cheapest of tours financially but the amount of information you receive, the close interactions you have with the animals and the support provided to the sanctuary is priceless and when we come back for our wedding in June 2020, we will be sure to visit again. Thanks again for a wonderful evening Rory and Prue, it was an amazing evening!! Keep up the great work and we will expect to see you in June.
