Rocky Gully is a great spot to make a stop and set up camp along the Larapinta walking trail. It is accessible via Section 6 of the 223-kilometre trail, which traverse expanses of exposed, wild country typical of much of Central Australia.
Along the way you will see plants and animals that have adapted to survive tough conditions. Despite the shallow soil, the vegetation is thick and predominantly shrub land. Shady trees are rare.
After trekking in a south-westerly direction, the trail descends into a steep sided gully. The Rocky Gully creek bed makes it a good place to set up camp for the night before continuing your journey on Section 6 of the Larapinta Trail.
There is no vehicle access to Rocky Gully.
Section 6 of the Larapinta Trail is graded as medium. It is a narrow track that may be rough in places, with some climbing and descending, suitable for people who walk regularly.
