The cottage was built c.1865 by Edwin H. Mackereth who came to Australia, firstly, in search of gold. Vines were planted in the 1880's and he supplied award winning wines to the town. One vine remains. Current vines were planted by Mt Avoca Winery.
Restoration of the original cottage started six years ago and since completion is enjoyed as a venue for car rallies, events and weekend stays.
Accommodation includes two bedrooms , new bathroom (one toilet), living room / dining area (OFP). Original kitchen - no oven - includes microwave oven and hotplates. Outside are barbecues and an open-fire pit (fire restrictions apply). Sleeping around the fire pit can be arranged.
